Milwaukee Waste Prevention

Waste prevention is a significant part of Milwaukee's sustainability objectives. Waste prevention  can be defined as measures taken before a product, material or substance becomes waste.

The prevention of waste has much to do with design. Design can extend the life cycle of products and reduce the adverse effects of waste on human health and the environment. Waste prevention can be accomplished through the re-use of existing material, through smart joining techniques, and by curbing the use of substances like glue or resins.

The use of glue and resins hinder waste prevention and make deconstruction and re-use difficult. The sustainable model seeks to properly attach construction components with natural joining techniques, increase the probability for re-use, and to reduce the adverse effects on human health and the environment.
