Observations about Civic Engagement

In 2011, members from five New Hampshire organizations gathered to observe and study civic engagement in their state. What emerged from the New Hampshire study was a universal disregard for civil discourse and a prevailing unwillingness to compromise. Three points from the seven page essay:

1. Society is less polite, less respectful, and less willing to compromise
2. Social media makes it easy for misinformation and crass comments to be circulated at lightning speed, and with little to no accountability
3. Residents and elected officials seem more interested in sound bytes than objective analysis of the facts relating to a particular case
