Resource Agility and DfD

Design for deconstruction is a simple concept that maximizes the life-cycle of building materials  By extending the life of construction lumber and other composite material, DfD can make a significant contribution to resource conservation.

Design for Deconstruction is about re-use. Designing material and its component parts in a way that can be easily disassembled. Constructing a home, a building, or consumer product in a way that allows them to to be taken apart, easily deconstructed and used for additional purposes.

Adapting to DfD is a responsible practice. It prioritizes reasonable and fair use of raw materials, with the expectation of multiple use production. Production, not necessarily in the sense of mass, but in the sense of customization. A practice that lends itself to the local economy.  One that Milwaukee designers, makers, builders, and craftsman, can all benefit from.
