Waste Efficiency / Dinosaur Dumpster

New economic arrangements and opportunity are increasing for small businesses in Milwaukee. As the waste recovery industry shifts from traditional disposal to more efficient recycling and by product synergy streams you can anticipate some systematic changes. Don't be surprised to see some new and innovative collaborative partnerships taking on Wisconsin's Waste Management "giants". Companies like Advanced Disposal, Eagle Disposal and Sorce Dumpster Rental have dominated the Junk Removal sector for too long. They have failed  their social responsibility to properly address environmental concerns.  Outside of painting "think green" slogans  on their trucks, little change has been made to address larger issues, namely dumpsters design.

Current dumpster design is outdated. There needs to be a change. The idea of disposing and mixing reusable, recyclable, and rubbish material into one large dumpster is a waste of resources.  Dumpsters ought to contain dividers to separate the usable waste material from the unusable. The recyclable waste should be sorted from trash and the hazardous waste should be separated from dumpsters altogether.  Too often have I observed fluorescent bulbs, televisions, paints, and other hazardous waste commingled together in traditional dumpsters. The city of Milwaukee and its legislature must recognize that traditional dumpster practices are outdated and inefficient. Wisconsin needs to regulate commercial dumpster operations and increase its standards. Commingling the waste  from 8, 12, 16 , 20, 30 and 40 yard dumpsters is a waste of resources. It's time for a new design. Dispose the "Dinosaur Dumpster" and replace it with a new and modern design.

A new design could have significant implications for the entire structure of Wisconsin's Solid Waste economy. By adding dividers to dumpsters to separate rubbish from reusables would "Refresh" Milwaukee's sustainability efforts. This design change could provide new business opportunity for the growing class of social and environmental entrepreneurs. There is no better time than now for a change.
